The 911 Turbo engine is based on the water-cooled ‘flat-six’ from the 911 GT1. Equipped with twin exhaust-gas turbochargers, this 3.6-litre unit develops 309 kW (420 bhp) at 6,000 rpm. Touch the throttle, and the engine responds with unprecedented immediacy and precision.
Another key technology is VarioCam Plus, which combines variable valve timing and lift. Maximum torque of 560 Nm is available from 2,700 to 4,600 rpm. The resulting flexibility enables easy overtaking, backed by seemingly endless reserves of power.

To experience what a Porsche Turbo is like, you need to drive a Porsche Turbo.

On the 911 Turbo S models, we’ve increased power output to 331 kW (450 bhp) at 5,700 rpm with torque of 620 Nm between 3,500 and 4,500 rpm.

The overall result is a fluidity of acceleration and natural finesse normally associated with much larger eight or twelve-cylinder engines.
All chassis systems on the 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S are designed for optimum agility and handling. The latest materials and construction techniques have been used to minimise weight – particularly on unsprung components. The results are a safer and more manageable ride – regardless of load – as well as natural resistance to lift-off oversteer when cornering. Changing lanes is smooth and secure, even when travelling at speed. Pitch and roll have been reduced to a minimum, ensuring optimum control under acceleration, braking and cornering. Road noise and vibration have been all but eliminated, thereby enhancing your enjoyment of the car.

The 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S share a natural development of the classic Turbo shape. The results are both uniquely Porsche and unmistakably Turbo.
Each of today’s models is a direct beneficiary of wind-tunnel development in Weissach. Sharing a drag coefficient of 0.31, the Coupé and Cabriolet versions of both model variants have a greater aerodynamic efficiency than any previous generation. The front and rear axles are extremely well balanced, with exceptionally low coefficients of lift.

Grip is enhanced by the ‘ground-effects’ underbody, which is specifically designed to ‘suck’ the car down onto the road. The airflow is managed by a system of polypropylene panels which also protect the underside of the car. Together, these elements form an aerodynamic whole that is one of the most efficient for a car of this type.

The 911 Turbo has one of the most powerful braking systems ever developed for a production car. Specifically designed to cope with extreme mechanical loads in the toughest road conditions, the standard 911 Turbo brakes combine rapid deceleration with reliable fade-resistance and consistent straight-line stability.

All four brakes are equipped with four-piston monobloc aluminium fixed calipers featuring a distinctive red paint finish. The monobloc caliper is a one-piece item that is not only much stronger and lighter than other designs, but also more consistent under all types of braking. For the driver, the benefits are a greater immediacy of response and release, as well as shorter pedal travel and easy modulation.

Wet-weather performance is considerably enhanced with the aid of cross-drilled discs all round. By enabling rapid dispersal of the water vapour generated under braking, the distinctive drill-hole pattern ensures greater consistency in the wet.

The brakes are cooled by means of internal ventilation on each of the discs as well as an innovative air-channel system on the calipers. Apart from improving brake response, positive brake cooling can extend the life expectancy of pads and discs.
